"And Now a Noose at OSU"

Basically, go read Michael's post. It's short, but you need to know about it.

I am shocked.

I am disgusted.

I don't know what more to say.

Backstory: Apparently it was left over from a Halloween frat party, the theme of which was - so I hear - the Salem Witch Trials.

As a friend of mine said, they started with sexism and ended up with racism.

There is apparently no intentional connection between that and the blackface thing.

Anyway.

The real deal is the fraternity has an annual Haunted House where they charge admission in money or canned food and all the proceeds go to the Linn-Benton County Food Share. It was a philanthropic event aimed at helping the community and they spend a week setting it up and it takes just as long to take down. They were in the process of taking down the decorations and it was one of the many things left up. There was no "frat party" to which it was associated. It was a witch hanging but some drunk person stole the witch in the middle of the night so all that was left was the noose. I know the guys and that's the actual story.

The story about the haunted house checks out. It was done to raise money for Linn Benton Food Share.

The frat admits that the decorations should have been down sooner, but they needed to rent a ladder, same as they did when they put it up.

The kids at the Phi Gamma Delta have been extremely apologetic about the incident.

The real fault lies with the Barometer for not jumping on this story. Rumors have festered because a lack of factual news.

In light of everything that has happened, for the paper's staff not to push out a story as soon as the incident became known is shameful.

It's no wonder their credibility is about zip on campus.
